A soft top on the coast road between Heraklion and Agia Pelagia at seven in the evening is one of the better reasons to rent a car in Crete at all. It is also the category with the tightest availability on the island, so it is worth asking early.

Availability is genuinely limited, especially in July and August - ask as far ahead as you can.
Boot space is small on most convertibles; two cabin bags plus one medium suitcase is realistic.
Between 12:00 and 17:00 in high summer the roof usually stays up - the sun is stronger than it looks.
Never leave anything visible in an open car, and put the roof up whenever you park.
Soft-top 4x4s are still road cars: insurance is void off-road, including the track to Balos.
Where a convertible is worth it
The old coast road west of Heraklion towards Agia Pelagia and Bali, the run from Agios Nikolaos around the Elounda bay, and the evening drive up to Anogia are all made better with the roof down. Long motorway stretches on the E75 in the middle of the day are not - plan the open-roof driving for early morning and the hours after five.

There is no instant checkout. When you send your dates we check personally what is genuinely available for that period, and we reply with the car (or a similar one), the conditions and one clear final price. Nothing is reserved until you confirm in writing, and no payment is taken to ask.
Insurance, deposit and conditions
Every MyCrete rental includes FCDW full insurance plus WUG cover - tyres, wheels, glass, mirrors and the underbody - at €0 excess, with no security deposit and no credit-card hold. Kilometres are unlimited and the quoted total is the amount you pay at handover, by cash or card. Fuel is not included: you receive the car with a set fuel level and return it the same way. Insurance is void off-road, including the gravel track to Balos. Cars are arranged from our own fleet and from selected local partners, and MyCrete stays your contact for the whole rental.
