The main coastal street is slow in the evening and street parking near the harbour disappears by 19:00. Park on the streets above the main road and walk down, or use the beach-end car parks. The climb to Koutouloufari and Piskopiano is short but narrow - a small car is genuinely easier. For the Lasithi plateau take the road via Krasi and Kera, allow 50 minutes each way, and expect a queue of tour buses at the Kera monastery in the morning.
