Driving out of the port
The port sits right below Heraklion's old town walls, and the exit roads join the coastal highway within minutes. Heading east, Hersonissos and Stalis are around 30 to 40 minutes away; heading west, Agia Pelagia is about 30 minutes. Early-morning ferry arrivals usually mean quiet roads, while late-morning traffic around the city centre can be slow.
Fuel and returns
Return the car with the same fuel level it had at handover - there is no need to fill the tank. Returns can be arranged at the port for your departing ferry, at the airport or at your hotel; tell us when you ask for availability so it is included in your quote.
How availability and pricing work
There is no instant checkout. When you send your dates we check personally what is genuinely available for that period, and we reply with the car (or a similar one), the conditions and one clear final price. Nothing is reserved until you confirm in writing, and no payment is taken to ask.
Insurance, deposit and conditions
Every MyCrete rental includes FCDW full insurance plus WUG cover - tyres, wheels, glass, mirrors and the underbody - at €0 excess, with no security deposit and no credit-card hold. Kilometres are unlimited and the quoted total is the amount you pay at handover, by cash or card. Fuel is not included: you receive the car with a set fuel level and return it the same way. Insurance is void off-road, including the gravel track to Balos. Cars are arranged from our own fleet and from selected local partners, and MyCrete stays your contact for the whole rental.
Before requesting your rental
Bring your original, valid physical driving licence and passport or ID card. Copies and phone photos are not accepted. Pay at handover by card, bank transfer or cash in euros; there is no deposit or prepayment.
An additional driver costs €4/day and must be named in the agreement. Child seats carry a small extra fee; include each child's age in your enquiry. Return the car with the same fuel level as at handover.
FCDW and WUG provide €0 excess for covered damage, not unlimited protection. Off-asphalt driving, an unregistered driver and driving under alcohol or drugs invalidate cover. Interior damage is covered only when caused by an accident. Reckless use and other breaches can leave you responsible for repair costs.
