Almost every rental quote you compare online in Crete is a basic CDW policy: the excess is €700-1200, and tyres, the car's underside, glass and mirrors - the four things that actually get damaged here - are excluded outright. The waiver that removes all of that is sold at the desk, on the morning you arrive, at a price you had no chance to compare.
Our quote is the other way round. FCDW full insurance plus WUG cover is already in the daily rate at €0 excess, and there is no better package to be sold at handover because we do not have one.
In Greece the standard product is CDW with a high excess and a written exclusion list covering tyres, undercarriage, glass and mirrors. That is why counter staff can offer 'full protection' for €15-25 a day on top of a cheap headline rate - the cheap rate exists to make the upsell work. Read the words WUG (Wheels, Underside, Glass) on any quote you compare: if they are missing, the policy is not full cover, whatever the checkout page calls it. Our rate is quoted with FCDW and WUG already inside it, so the number you are shown is the number you pay.
A deposit exists to hold the excess on your card. With a €0 excess policy there is nothing to hold, so we take no deposit, place no pre-authorisation and keep no card on file. Add free delivery in the Heraklion area, unlimited kilometres, and a person who answers in English, Estonian or Finnish on WhatsApp for the whole trip, and that is the entire product.
